Don is broadcasting now until midnight CST. Say hello in the chatbox below, through our Facebook page, or via Twitter @Project 42. Requests, dedications, and general conversation welcomed!
We’ve done some modification to the stream to enable more people to listen. It might take a couple of days for the change to migrate to iTunes (or it might not), but you can always listen through your browser by clicking the “Listen Now” button in the right column.
Journey was one of the biggest rock band of the late 1970s and early 1980s, but broke up after their 1986 album Raised on Radio. Most accounts I’ve read say the reason was lead singer Steve Perry wasn’t satisfied with the band’s management, among other things. In any case, any differences were set aside in 1995, when Perry, Neil Schon and Johnathan Cain reunited to record another album.
Trial By Fire was released in 1996, and gave the band several hits on a few different music charts, but the biggest was “When You Love A Woman”, which reached #12 on the Billboard Hot 100 this week in 1997. If you’ve ever heard a Journey power ballad, you’ll know what this song sounds like. That’s not to say it’s bad; Perry still had the vocal chops and the band sounded like it had never broken up.
A reunion tour was planned, but Perry injured his hip in 1997 while hiking in Hawaii. For some time, he refused to get hip replacement surgery. He was replaced in 1998, and the band’s classic lineup hasn’t performed together since.
I can’t show you the official video for the song (thanks heaps, Sony), so here’s a part of the song with Journey’s current lead singer, Arnel Pineda, who is no slouch himself in the vocal department.
We’re not Twilight fans, but the song’s good.
In our continuing efforts to conquer the world — uh, that is, bring fun and funky internet radio to you everywhere, we’ve added Project 42 to the Reciva internet radio database. You can listen through their internet portal, or through devices equipped with their technology.
A listener from iTunes emails to ask: “Why aren’t you playing any Christmas music?”
Well, it’s not that we’re Scrooges (though our kids often think we’re cheap). The main reason is: we don’t have a very large Christmas library, and there’s been no money to get more this year. We’d rather have more to play than burn out the few we have.
We’re not Scrooges. We LOVE Christmas. Next year, God willing, we’ll sound a bit more festive on the air.
I hope all of you have a great holiday season, no matter which day you celebrate…or even if you don’t celebrate at all.
Project 42 Radio can now be heard through iTunes! If you came here via iTunes, welcome! If you’re an iTunes user, you’ll find us under the “Top 40/Pop” section of the radio directory.
I submitted Project 42 to iTunes today. If we’re listed (and there’s no guarantee of that), then there may be many more pop music junkies tuning in. At least, I hope that’s what happens.
