Project 42 Radio

The old stuff. The new stuff. All the stuff in between.

Here at the Cave, we’ve been experimenting with the music mix; primarily with playing current hit tracks more often. So we tweaked the playlist and tried that out for a while. Most of you didn’t like that. I mean, really didn’t like that. Many of you told us that you didn’t mind the new tracks, just not as frequently.

We’ve heard, and we’re listening. As of today, we’ve reformulated the music mix. The end result should be even more variety while still bringing you the best of the new music. You shouldn’t hear any repeats at all during the typical American workday (or any time period of that length, for that matter). On the weekends (starting every Friday at 3 p.m. Central Time), we’ll expand the selection even more and play songs that may not get regular play during the week.

Let us know how we’re doing, OK?

First…we’ve had listeners from 46 countries check out Project 42 Radio over the last 30 days. All we can say is “wow”. Thanks for trying us out, and we hope you all tune in often!

Second…we have had problems with the tech in the Secret Broadcast Cave over the last three weekends. It’s been frustrating, to say the least. After yet another crash Friday May 2nd, we moved to a different software platform and to new computers. Since the upgrade, things have been running much better.

There is a compromise in this…in order to keep the Project running well, we’ve had to disable our automated request feature. We know many of you liked this (some of you really liked it), but we can’t keep it running if it may be causing the whole station to go down.  In the near future, we’ll set up an email address where you can send your requests, and play them during a certain time of the day (likely in the evening, since we all still have day jobs to pay the bills).  We’ll keep you posted.

Now you can see what’s playing now (and the four previously played songs) on the front page. Just look a little down and to your right. We’ve also added more features to the list. Hover your mouse over any song on the list, and you’ll see the ratings figure. Just click to rate a song from one to five stars. There are links to song, artist, album and concert information. Finally, you can buy an mp3 of the song through Amazon.com. We make a tiny bit of money if you buy the mp3 through that link, which helps keep the generators running around here, so I hope you’ll consider using that link if you’re in the mood to buy.

In the works is an expanded “Now Playing” page in addition to the front page list. Once it’s done, it will allow you to see everything that’s played the previous hour, with all the functionality of the smaller list.

Happy Valentine’s Day!

The folks here at Project 42 have made improvements here at the Secret Broadcast Cave. We’re now capable of having more listeners tuned in simultaneously.  We’re also done more tweaking to the doohickeys and frammistats to make our station sound even better, even if you have dinky little speakers on your computer.

There is a downside, at least if you’ve been listening via iTunes.  We’ve informed Apple about our changes, and until they get around to modifying our link in iTunes (and how long that takes in entirely up to them), you likely won’t be able to listen this way.  Until then, you can click on the big green “Listen Now” button on the top right, and you’ll be taken to our launch page.  You can listen through your browser, or click the icons under the web player to launch Project 42 in your favorite media player.

We apologize if you’ve had any trouble tuning in, and as always, appreciate any comments and suggestions you might have.
