Project 42 Radio

Over at the Facebook site, we’ve asked people for opinions on how much new music, if any, to play here in the Secret Broadcast Cave.  John’s response:

New music — yes.
American Idol-based music — no.
There is pop beyond the "Idol" juggernaut!!!

John makes a good point.  We do like some of the music from the Idol phenomenon – though, to be honest, we can count the artists we like from the show on one hand and still have fingers left over.  We can’t totally ignore it, though, since we don’t answer to anyone else, we can be more selective when we want (and that’s why you don’t hear much Nickelback here.)

We’re non-commerical here at Project 42, and that means we have to run on someone else’s hamster wheel to keep the generators on here in the cave.  The down side of that is we don’t have as much time for music discovery as we’d like. So, in this thread, we’re asking for your suggestions. 

If there’s an artist we’re missing, tell us here.  Give us a song title or two to consider; website links would also be helpful.  We’ll consider any of them at least once, but excessively vulgar or violent lyrics are automatically out.  If we add your suggestion to the library, we’ll acknowledge it here so all seventeen of the people who read this will know that you have excellent taste.  Click the comments link at the top of this post to get started!

It’s been a good year for Project 42.  Yeah, I’ve only been on the air six months, but this is the year that the dream, more than two years in the making, finally came true.  i’ve learned a lot, made some mistakes, but all in all, it’s been a fun ride so far!

There’s some folks I want to thank for their help and support…

• My kids, who gave lots and lots of song suggestions for our more recent songs.
• Mom and Dad, who didn’t automatically assume I was nuts for wanting to run a radio station from my house.
• All my friends in the “Legion of Superfluous Heroes” at the Captain Comics site.  Your encouragement is a blessing!
• Frank James Bailey, who helped get us started by voicing the station IDs. If you need voice work done, get Frank!
• You, for trying Project 42 Radio out.  Thanks again if you’re a regular!

I’m taking a little time off for the Thanksgiving holiday, so there’s no new music to share with you this week.  I’ll be back with some new tunes on Monday.

I am thankful for many things here at the Project.  Among them are:

• The chance to see a dream come true by getting Project 42 Radio up and running.  It took over two years to get things going.
• What I’ve learned in the process of setting things up.  Even if the station should go away, the experience is quite valuable.
• The help and support I have received from friends old and new before and after the launch.  Thanks for your encouragement and your enthusiasm.
• Finally, if you have taken the time to listen, even if it’s just for a few minutes at a time, I thank you.  There are thousands of choices out there on the Infinite Dial, and I’m grateful for any time you choose to spend here.
