Hi, I’m Don, and I’m the guy behind Project 42.
While I was born in Michigan and spent a good chunk of my childhood in Kentucky, I’ve lived in Texas most of my life. I now live in a small town in the Texas Panhandle.
I spent 22 years in radio broadcasting. I did everything from being on the air to sweeping the floors at night. When I was laid off in the summer of 2007, I thought I was through with radio for good. I found out what I missed most was sharing experiences through the songs I played. That’s when I started to look into broadcasting online, and the end result is Project 42 Radio.
Project 42 began as an experiment with in February 2008, and broadcast quite sporadically with a few hundred songs and a Winamp player with a Shoutcast server. I began full-time webcasting in June 2009. All programming originates from a room in my home.
Project 42 is mostly listener-supported. I do have an Amazon music store, but that’s there more to help your find the music you hear than to make any kind of profit. I’m doing it for fun and the love of music. Royalties to ASCAP, BMI, SESAC and SoundExchange are paid through LoudCity.
My playlist philosophy is somewhere between “carefully selected” and “whatever we can find in the CD collection”. I’m an unashamed pop music junkie, raised on radio since I was a small boy. That’s why Project 42 covers a variety of musical styles and eras. At this time, Project 42 has over 270 hours of pop, rock and more from the 70s to today. I’m having a great time doing this, and I hope you enjoy it too.
